Spectroscopy in a Suitcase

In December, three Undergraduate students from UCL came in to deliver a ‘Spectroscopy in a Suitcase’ workshop to a group of A-Level Chemistry students. This workshop was funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Students were given a University style lecture on the following analytical techniques: mass spectrometry, infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. They were then able to use specialist spectroscopic equipment to identify unknown chemicals and compounds.
