Introduction to our Beacon Communication Department (BCD)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


BCD is an Additional Resource provision at Beal High School for children with a diagnosis of Autism and\/or social communication difficulties identified as their main area of need. It is for learners aged between 11 and 16 years.  There is a sixth form BCD provision available at the Beacon Academy Site, The Forest Academy. 
All of our students attending BCD will have Education, Health and Care plans (EHCP).
Students attending BCD will be expected to access at least 50% mainstream in Year 7. The mainstream access will be increased as they progress into the above years.
Within this provision, students are based in small class groups of 6 pupils. BCD will have one class base per year group, with each group having an assigned teacher. 
Our Department consists of a highly experienced and committed team which includes two SENCO\u2019s who are also Co-heads of department, SEND-trained teachers, teaching assistants, parent support advisor and SEND admin.
At BCD we aim to:<\/strong>
Provide a level of scaffolding and nurturing support to enable pupils to access mainstream classes and fully participate and integrate with the wider school community; to attend year group assemblies, workshops and attend extracurricular activities and clubs. 
Focus and build on positive interactions and relationships with others by developing social communication and understanding for our pupils.
Prioritise literacy and language to ensure pupils can access the most from their secondary curriculum via targeted intervention and small group literacy sessions.
Personalise and provide bespoke support where it is needed by sustaining strong relationships with families and<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
