Beal High School was delighted to welcome the\u00a0<\/span>AS Creatives<\/span><\/b>\u00a0team on\u00a0<\/span>Monday 8th June 2026<\/span><\/b>\u00a0for a full day of\u00a0high<\/span>\u2011energy, interactive\u00a0<\/span>Murderous Maths<\/span><\/b>\u00a0workshops with\u00a0all of\u00a0our Year 8 students. The sessions blended humour, storytelling and\u00a0hands<\/span>\u2011on\u00a0problem<\/span>\u2011solving\u00a0to help students explore key mathematical ideas in a memorable and engaging way.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout the day, students worked through a rich variety of mathematical themes\u00a0appropriate to\u00a0their age and stage, including:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  • Positional language<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u2013 understanding direction,\u00a0movement\u00a0and spatial relationships<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      \n
    • Properties of 2D and 3D shapes<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0identifying,\u00a0comparing\u00a0and reasoning about geometric structures<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
        \n
      • Additive and multiplicative reasoning<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u2013 exploring how numbers combine,\u00a0scale\u00a0and relate<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
          \n
        • Fractions<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u2013 deepening confidence with part\u2013whole relationships<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
            \n
          • Number patterns<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u2013 spotting structure,\u00a0sequences\u00a0and rules<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            • Time<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u2013 applying time calculations to\u00a0real<\/span>\u2011world\u00a0contexts<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              • Multi<\/span><\/b>\u2011stage\u00a0problem solving<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u2013 breaking down complex tasks into logical steps<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                • Money<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u2013 reasoning with value,\u00a0budgeting\u00a0and financial decisions<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                  • Data collection<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u2013 gathering,\u00a0organising\u00a0and interpreting information<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                    \u00a0<\/span>The\u00a0AS Creatives\u00a0team brought these ideas to life through puzzles, demonstrations and challenges that encouraged students to think creatively and collaboratively. Year 8 engaged brilliantly, showing curiosity,\u00a0resilience\u00a0and enthusiasm as they tackled each activity.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

                    The day not only strengthened students\u2019 mathematical understanding but also highlighted the fun,\u00a0relevance\u00a0and excitement of the subject\u00a0both in and out of the curriculum.
