To support the aspirations of our ‘High-Fliers’ in the Sixth Form, we were fortunate to be invited to attend an open day at Lady Margaret Hall College (LMH). Founded in 1878, LMH opened up Oxford University to women for the first time and now, it is the first Oxford College to establish a Foundation Year for under-represented students.
During the day, students were given opportunities to participate in academic taster sessions, learn about student life, University and the different formats of education and find out more about the Oxbridge admissions process. Students were given a tour of the College and had the chance to speak to current University students about any questions they had.
The day was incredibly insightful and inspiring. Here is what some of our students had to say:
“I found the Oxford trip to be a wonderful experience. Being able to walk around the campus, see the library and sit in the lecture hall gave me a small taste of what attending Oxford university would be like. I also found the tutorial style lecture extremely informative. It was a unique way of teaching that was interactive, and I quite enjoyed it. The whole experience was inspiring and has made me consider Oxford as a University option.”

“I found the insight from current staff and students at Oxford really useful regarding applications to Oxford, what they really look for in a potential student, and the student life there. The information given to us really helped me in terms of striving to apply for Oxford, and overall the day was very enjoyable.”

“The highlight of my day was visiting Lady Margaret Hall, and seeing the library and the beautiful gardens, which makes it a nice place to study. I gained an insight into the wide range of subjects that are taught. I also learnt a lot from the Q&A session led by three students, especially about how the application process works. Did it inspire me to apply? Yes it did, it gave me more knowledge on what colleges within Oxford would be like to study in, and I enjoyed it.”
