A Strong Year for Beal Mathematicians

The UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge is a national problem-solving competition aimed at students in Years 9–11. The competition not only assesses students’ academic abilities, but also encourages the development of critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and creativity within the maths curriculum.

This year, 90 students from Years 9 and 10 at Beal took part, and we’ve had a really strong set of results.

To recognise the highest performers, UKMT awards certificates to the top 50% of students nationally, split into Bronze, Silver and Gold in a 3:2:1 ratio. With that in mind, the following results are a great achievement:
• Gold: 7 students (approximately top 10% nationally)
• Silver: 18 students (approximately top 25% nationally)
• Bronze: 28 students (approximately top 50% nationally)

A special mention goes to Ilyaas Hussain, who achieved Best in School with a score of 109, and Heer Dobariya, who was Best in Year 10 with a score of 100.

Going a step further — and a really significant achievement — we had 6 students progress onto further rounds.

The following students qualified for the Kangaroo rounds (approximately top 4,000 nationally in their year groups):
• Aayush Behera
• Syed Hussain
• Ammar Ahmed
• Moiz Shah

The following students qualified for the Mathematical Olympiad (roughly top 500 nationally in their year group):
• Ilyaas Hussain – Cayley Olympiad
• Heer Dobariya – Hamilton Olympiad

Reaching this stage places them among the strongest young mathematicians in the country!

Well done to all students who took part — it’s great to see so many getting involved and pushing themselves with challenging maths. The UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge is a fantastic opportunity for students to challenge themselves and gain recognition for their mathematical thinking. Beal students have performed brilliantly this year, and we look forward to seeing how those progressing continue to do in the next rounds.
