When you read puppets you think of marionettes and productions like War Horse and The Lion King. Well we didn’t have puppets on that large scale but the Year 7 and 8 students definitely explored puppets of all sorts throughout the full day workshop on Tuesday 16th June. The day started with facilitator Rosa from Little Angel Theatre exploring students’ contact and knowledge of puppets through workshops or performance. They then did a physical warm up preparing to work on newspaper puppets, making old copies of the Metro walk, sleep, breathe and even snore.
Hand puppets were then created, many of whom had a mind of their own exploring the KS4 hall with their naughty, mischievous and inquisitive personalities
The afternoon was spent working with the puppets from Little Angel theatre, which was really special. Everyone ‘locked in’ and really brought these puppets to life.
represented themselves and the school amazingly well. They should all be proud of completing this whole day workshop
different students and making new friends. My favourite part was when we were creating scenes with the puppets as superheroes. I thought we would just be playing with the puppets like toys but it actually takes a lot of patience and skill.
“ It was really interesting how you had to do so many different things depending on the different puppets for example some you hade to kneel down to operate the puppets”
“ I didn’t think it was possible to create a puppet from newspapers
“It was an incredible and unique opportunity to learn how to puppeteer properly with friends many other students across years 7 and 8.”
