INTRODUCTION TO OUR BEACON COMMUNICATION DEPARTMENT (BCD)

BCD is an Additional Resource provision at Beal High School for children with a diagnosis of Autism and/or social communication difficulties identified as their main area of need. It is for learners aged between 11 and 16 years. All of our students attending BCD will have Education, Health and Care plans (EHCP).

Students attending BCD will be expected to access at least 50% mainstream in Year 7. The mainstream access will be increased as they progress into the above years. Within this provision, students are based in small class groups of 6 pupils. BCD will have one class base per year group, with each group having an assigned teacher.

Our Department consists of a highly experienced and committed team which includes a SENCO and Head of Department, SEND-trained teachers, teaching assistants, parent support advisor and SEND admin.

At BCD we aim to:

To support all students sitting public GCSE and A level exams at the school this summer and as is our standard practice, we will change the timings within the school day from Tuesday 5th May to Friday 12th June inclusive. The start and end times are not affected
